Velocity Profile of Transient Flow in a Convergent-Divergent Nozzle of Reflected Shock Tunnel

This research displays a 2-D time-accurate Navier-Stokes solver for shock tunnel applications. Fourth-order accurate Runge-Kutta temporal integration and second-order accurate finite volume spatial discretization are used by the solver. Its goal is to simulate the transient flow process in a reflect...

description This research displays a 2-D time-accurate Navier-Stokes solver for shock tunnel applications. Fourth-order accurate Runge-Kutta temporal integration and second-order accurate finite volume spatial discretization are used by the solver. Its goal is to simulate the transient flow process in a reflected shock tunnel by utilizing various driver/driven gas mixtures. An investigation of the entire facility's flow characteristics was conducted, with a special focus on the nozzle portion's speed profile. The flow inside the nozzle part was found to be steady and uniform for a few milliseconds. The findings indicate that the pressure ratio between the driving and propelling parts is not as critical as previously thought, but the shock wave's location along the ability has a significant impact on its speed. Shock-reflected shock waves make the flow not uniform, which fits with what we know from modeling. ? 2024 American Institute of Physics Inc.. All rights reserved.
