The resulting layered organic-inorganic hybrid nanocomposite material was formed using 2-beta-naphthoxyacetic acid as guest anion intercalated into the Mg-Al layered double hydroxide inorganic host by direct co-precipitation method in conventional way. As a result of successful intercalation of 2-beta-naphthoxyacetic ion into the interlayer structure of Mg-Al-LDH, an expansion of the interlayer spacing, from 8.0 Å in the layered double hydroxide to 26.0 Å in the nanocomposite (MAB) could be observed in the powder X-ray diffractogram. In Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), MAB exhibits FTIR absorption bands characteristic of both BNOA and MAL.
