The application of expert system for this area is growing rapidly due to reduction in pavement budgets. This paper provide a brief overview of current developments and implementation of expert system in pavement management for both highway and airport networks. Since most of the existing expert system applications are for highway networks, it is a concern of this paper on the potential development of such knowledge-based or expert system for analysis and design of airport pavement rehabilitation strategies.
