| Summary: | Living in the modern era, there are many advancements being made in efforts to assist in the rehabilitation of patients with knee and elbow injuries. Among many problems faced by such patients, one of the most common is the restricted range of motion in knee and elbow. Restricted range of motion limits the execution of the smooth functional activity that lead to complications such as contractures, muscle weakness, and muscle tightness. Hence, the main objective of this paper is to design an automated comprehensive biomedical device for knee and elbow rehabilitation. This paper describes the design of biomedical device to measure the range of motion of patients' knee and elbow. The main feature of the proposed device is that it is able to be utilized throughout the rehabilitation duration, from regaining range of motion, to strengthening of the muscular components, and finally return to the normal elbow or knee function. The successful completion of this design will provide a biomedical engineering aid that would allow patients to progressively achieve the functional range of motion with tolerable pain. |
