description Waste management is a popular issue that is being discussed nowadays. In smart city contexts, ineffective and inefficient waste management will affect the health of communities. To solve this problem is to develop and implement IoT-Based Smart Waste Monitoring System (SWMS). The sensor will be implemented in every container; when a certain amount of waste is reaching, the sensor will identify if the container is empty, half full, or overload. The result through this design, the SWMS will be able to prevent unhygienic environment caused by overload waste in a container. Moreover, every container also will be implementing a GPS Tracker to keep track of the location of the container; this will help waste collector to collect the overloaded container. In addition to that, the SWMS will be connected to a cloud-based storage and monitoring dashboard that will be deployed on a server through NodeMCU. This allows monitoring on each of the waste containers frequently. The SWMS will facilitate the smart city environment in the city council of Kangar to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of the waste collector in collecting the waste. Moreover, the prototype was first designed using prototype architecture and schematic diagram. The integration between the ultrasonic sensor and GPS module (gy-neo 6m v2) was then validated using an integration test before the functionality of the prototype was tested using a Test Cases method. Another evaluation consists of gaining a response from the respondents about the system understanding which consist of usefulness, ease of use and user satisfaction via a usability test. The SWMS is the solution for waste overloaded issued to the City Council to uphold their duties to monitor the level of waste in the container and allocate the location of the container.
