| description | Unexpected fires may occur at any moment and in any location. There is a chance that a fire may break out in a high-rise residential building. Studies on fire safety in Malaysia is very recent, especially research on fire safety in high-rise residential buildings. When compared to other building types, the number of fire incidents involving residential buildings is much higher. As a result, escape routes in high-rise residential buildings should be designed and constructed to allow occupants to escape the building as soon as a fire is spotted. Therefore, the aim of this study is to improvise the fire safety escape route in design and specification for high-rise residential building in Gombak, Selangor. The objectives for this study were to identify the current practices or criteria in design escape route for high-rise residential building, to determine the problem of escape route design in high-rise residential building that cause delay in evacuation and suggest the improvisations the escape route design in high-rise residential building. The data for this research was collected using quantitative techniques and a questionnaire survey. Three high-rise residential buildings in Gombak, Selangor, were used to obtain the raw data. |
