In Islam, halal slaughter, also known as dhabiha, is the appropriate way to kill animals for food. By making a precise incision to the throat, it guarantees that the animal is quickly killed and that all of the blood is drained, improving the quality and sanitation of the meat. With precautions to reduce the animal's stress, the process places an emphasis on efficiency and compassion. It is a profoundly spiritual and moral practice that combines religious observance, compassionate care of animals, and clean food preparation. It is not just a mechanical act. A sane adult Muslim carry out the slaughter in accordance with Islamic law, reciting the phrase "Bismillah" before making the cut. The animal must be alive and in good health when it is killed, and it must be an animal that is permitted in Islam such as cattle, sheep, or poultry. (Muhammad, 2023) Imam Hanafi states that slaughter entails severing the food pipe, windpipe, and at least one of the two jugular veins. It remains valid even if two of the four sections are cut. The slaughterer must be a sane Muslim or a member of the People of the Book (Ahl al-Kitab), and it is wajib (compulsory) to say "Bismillah." Imam Shafi'e believes that cutting the food and windpipes is sufficient. While not required, cutting the jugular veins is advised. The meat is still halal even if "Bismillah" is forgotten since it is sunnah (recommended). Additionally, the slaughterer needs to be an Ahl al-Kitab or Muslim. According to Imam Hanbali, the majority of the jugular veins, the windpipe, and the food pipe should be severed. claiming that "Bismillah" is required.
