Description
Summary:Eurycoma Longifolia and Polyalthia Bullata are aphrodisiac plants which have been known to cure various illnesses and improve sexual performance, especially the EL plants. As they are beneficial for reproductive system, this study is conducted to observe the effect of both EL and PB plants on body weight and reproductive organs weight. Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into three groups (n=6 each) which was control group, EL and PB. 200 mg/kg respective doses of EL and PB were given for treatment groups for 14 days while control group received water. On day 15, the rats were sacrificed and dissected. The testes and seminal vesicles were removed and their weights were recorded. Data was analyzed using ANOV A and Kruskal-Wallis. For the result, mean total body weight showed a significant decrease for EL group (218.8 g ± 2.39) compared to control (229.0 g ± 2.54). There was no significant difference between control and PB group. However, it showed a significant difference between EL and PB group (229.6 g ± 2.74). There also no significant difference obtained for testes weight between all groups. There was a significant decreased in right seminal vesicles of EL compared to control (Z= -2.089, P=0.037) while PB gives no effect. In conclusion, EL gives more effect than PB in terms of body weight and seminal vesicles weight. Therefore, further study should be conducted on both EL and PB plants to identify their advance clinical usage for human.
