There are millions, who do, however, and it is now understood that in the short term the disappearance of rainforests will threaten the lives of over one billion people, as their water resources dry up and their land turns to dust. Many of these people actually live in the forests themselves and are utterly dependent on them. In the longer term this destruction may change the world's climate and therefore the history of the planet. |
