| Summary: | The escalating impacts of climate change, particularly the increasing frequency and severity of flooding, necessitate innovative approaches to housing development, especially in flood-prone areas. Hence, this study aims to bridge the gap in Malaysia’s current housing development practices as the flood disaster in the country worsen. This study adopts a qualitative research methodology, utilising content analysis of published literature and government policies from four pioneering countries in flood-resilient housing: the Netherlands, United States, Australia, and the United Kingdom. Through a comprehensive review, the article identifies key strategies and attributes for enhancing flood resilience, including adaptive architectural designs, sustainable urban planning, and advanced technological integration. These findings underscore the importance of a forward-thinking, holistic approach to housing development that anticipates future climate challenges. By adopting these cutting-edge strategies and attributes, communities in Malaysia can better withstand and adapt to flooding, ensuring long-term resilience and sustainability. This study offers valuable insights for policymakers, urban planners, architects, and developers focused on building flood-resilient housing solutions. |
