Assalamu Alaikum
I am exceptionally fascinated by reading your appreciation and feelings about the late Prof. Yasin Mazar Siddiqui Saheb, who left an incredible mark on many people around him, including you, due to your experience and proximity with him as a student and a colleague. He clearly supported, guided, and encouraged all around him as a true murabbi. I was an alien student in Aligarh, but due to his benevolent nature he always persuaded me to persevere with research and perennial problems and relationships with my supervisors. I was quite new and oblivious in doing research in languages like Persian and English, which gave me relentless difficulties. To my everlasting admiration and astonishment, he came forward and was willing to edit the crude draft of my MPhil dissertation during the winter vacation of 1983, while he was at home. He spent hours correcting the language and content of the dissertation daily, and even graciously offered me lunch, so we ate together as his family was on vacation. |
