Description
Summary:Strategic leadership and strategic planning practices are important elements in strategic management that must be mastered by organizational leaders. Accordingly, this study aims to identify the level of strategic leadership and the level of strategic planning practices among leaders of Matriculation Colleges in the North Zone. This study also examines the relationship and influence of strategic leadership components on the leader's strategic planning practice. This study was carried out using a mixed method: sequential explanatory. The sample was selected using stratified random sampling involving 232 respondents from academic lecturers while qualitative data was obtained through interviews with six (6) academic lecturers. The strategic leadership questionnaire was adapted from Hairuddin (2012) and the strategic planning was adapted from Siti Farah Syazana (2015). Variable measurement is based on 5-point Likert scales and analyzed using SPSS version 29.0. Quantitative data was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics while qualitative data was analyzed thematically. The findings of the study show that the level of strategic leadership and the level of strategic planning practices are at a high level. The t-test analysis showed no significant mean differences in the levels of all variables based on gender. Pearson's correlation analysis shows that there is a strong relationship between strategic leadership and strategic planning practices. As for the multiple regression test, it shows that the strategic leadership component is a significant predictor of strategic planning practices by 78.3%. Qualitative data analysis proves themes from strategic leadership and strategic planning practices. Regarding strategic leadership, four themes were explored: i) organized work; ii) leader support; iii) new strategies; iv) wisdom. In terms of strategic planning practices, three themes explored: i) information sharing; ii) leader support; and iii) evaluation. The information obtained from this study can help the BMKPM to continue to improve the practice of strategic planning through strategic leadership among matriculation college leaders.
