Description
Summary:Strategic planning practices and leadership communication skills are critical factors to ensure strategic decisions are made effectively. Therefore, the main objective of the study was to analyze the level of strategic planning practices, leadership communication skills and decision-making practices among middle leaders in matriculation college. It also aimed to investigate the influence and relationship between variables. Selected through a stratified random sampling, the sample comprise 158 middle leaders among heads of department, assistant directors and heads of academic unit from 15 matriculation colleges. This is a descriptive study conducted using a survey approach. The research data were obtained from the adapted strategic planning practice questionnaire by Norlita (2020), perceived leadership communication questionnaire (Schneider et al., 2015) and decision-making practice (Hengpiya, 2008). Measurement of variables was based on five Likert scale and was analyzed using SPSS version 28.0. The results of this study found that the level of strategic planning practices and leadership communication skills among middle leaders is high while the level of decision-making practices is at a medium level. The t-test analysis showed that there was no significant mean difference in the level of all variables based on gender among middle leaders. A one way analysis of variance (ANOVA) found that there was a significant difference in the mean level of decision-making practices based on the service period of middle leaders. Pearson correlation analysis showed that strategic planning practices and leadership communication skills had a significant positive relationship at a medium level with middle leaders’ decision making. Regression analysis results showed that leadership communication skills were significant predictors to decision-making. Finally, this study can contribute to the development of theory, knowledge and practice regarding strategic planning, communication skills and decision making among middle leaders.
